Our Summer school program ventured to Marlin today for the annual Juneteenth parade. The students had a blast! Afterward, students and staff enjoyed an excellent meal prepared by Mrs. Judie and the cafeteria staff to celebrate Juneteenth.

On this day in 1865, the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, were finally set free.
Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, which abolished slavery in the United States. However, slave owners in Texas didn't comply.
It wasn't until U.S. General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865, to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation and read General Orders No. 3: “The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free.”

Elementary summer learners have worked to build background knowledge prior to their exotic safari field trip. The students focused on learning the various animal habitats. The culminating project was a design of their assigned animal's habitat. See some of the designs below.

In Chilton ISD, we believe that experiences enhance learning. Our middle school students had the opportunity to experience Inner Space Caverns as a part of their summer learning experience.
